Answer: Depending on the width of the space, you might try some upright growing arborvitae or junipers (both evergreen) or, if you would prefer a deciduous plant, compact burning bushes or even the traditional clipped privet hedge. These would all grow best in full sun.
If the fence can be extended to a slightly taller height (or a pergola added alongside the pool) you could consider growing a vine on it to soften the look; fall blooming clematis or Virginia creeper would both climb a chain link fence and cover it nicely all summer.
