| My husband and I purchased a Bloodgood last year and were told to plant it 6 to 8 feet from our house which we did. However, on your site I saw that they can get up to 15 ft. tall and wide. Do we have it too close to the house? |
| The fifteen foot measure across is a rule of thumb, individual plants can vary depending on their growing conditions and climate. Plants also tend to grow more strongly outward on the side with more light, less wide on the house side of the trunk. Six to eight feet would be about half of the expected mature width, so it is probably far enough. These trees grow fairly slowly as they mature and can also be gently pruned, if need be, to control the occasional wayward branch. In general, I do not like to plant trees so close to a house but that is my personal preference and it is done quite often. I hope this answers your question. |
