Your goldfish plant (Columnea banksii) is not an easy plant to care for, but if you meet the following special requirements, your plant will reward you with lots of attractive flowers. Columnea needs frequent misting to maintain a moist atmosphere around the foliage. The soil must be kept on the dry side during the winter, with a nighttime temperature of 55F-65F. During the spring and summer months, provide average room temperature and bright light (but not direct sunlight). Keep the soil moist at all times during the growing season, feed monthly with a half-strength dilution of liquid fertilizer, and repot in late spring every 2 years, replacing the soil with fresh potting soil. Good luck with your goldfish plant!
