| I have two pots of papyrus plants that grew beautifully last summer. How can I help them survive indoors during winter in Buffalo, NY? Especially, do they want fertilizer now? They have excellent natural light, such as it is, from windows beside and above, but the room is really cool. Would a heater or grow-light seem needed? |
| I assume these were grown on the edge of a pond of some sort? Since the plant likes moist to wet soils, you may be able to overwinter them by standing the pots in deep saucers of water, or even immersing the entire pot in a bucket almost up to the rim. Since you want them to remain rather inactive, I would not fertilize them at this time. You'd like them to do as little growing as possible--save that for the spring. Cool temperatures--45-65F--should be fine for them. Just be sure the temperature stays above freezing. |
