I have used several landscape design programs. The choice really depends upon your computer comfort level. Better Homes and Gardens puts out a simple garden design package. It's user friendly and the results are good. Sierra Software markets LandDesign. It is very complete, including irrigation systems and hardscape elements. It's reasonably easy to use. The program by Eagle Point is similar. I think any of the above will produce a decent design without overwhelming the designer. Good luck with your new project!
