The Q&A Archives: Cercis Tree

Question: I am looking for some information on the cercis forest red tree. The size, if it is a fast grower, is it a good shade tree etc. thanks. vb

Answer: I don't have information on Cercis 'Forest Red', but
Cercis canadensis `Forest Pansy` may be the tree you're asking about. If so, it's a beautiful landscape tree valued for its brilliant scarlet-purple color to new foliage, maturing to maroon. Rosy-pink flowers on bare branches bridge the gap between winter and spring! It's a deciduous tree, grows best in full sun, and makes a nice shade tree. Redbud is a moderate grower to 20 feet tall, 25 feet wide.
