Cutting back spent flowers as soon as they begin to fade is a good way to keep seed pods from forming on plants. Seed formation takes a lot of energy, and stopping plants from developing seeds allows that energy to be redirected into strengthening the plant. Unless you specifically want to save the seeds, your plant will benefit from having spent flowers (and seed pods) removed on a regular basis.
