I'm assuming you want to reduce the moss, chickweed, dandelions. You might want to consider corn gluten meal. Corn gluten meal, a by-product of the corn milling process, works as a natural pre emergent herbicide. It stops root formation as seeds germinate. Without a root system, they can?t survive. After weeds germinate the corn gluten meal won?t stop the plant from growing. Because the meal is about 10 percent nitrogen, it also acts as a fertilizer for weeds or other plants that have already germinated, basically creating a natural ?weed and feed? product. Research shows that it was effective against 22 common weeds such as crabgrass, dandelions, pigweed, purslane, and lambsquarters. Follow the package directions for application rates, also making sure that it works against the weeds you want to target before buying it.
