The Q&A Archives: Overwintering Purple Fountain Grass In Zone 7

Question: I am in love with Purple Fountain Grass, I bought one last year that did not survive our very mild winter in NY. This year, I couldn't resist, I bought a smaller one with the intention of planting it into a pot. My question is, can I bring it inside for the winter?

Answer: You might be able to overwinter it indoors, however in my experience a cool greenhouse (low temperatures in the mid forties) would be better -- unfortunately it is a bit difficult to do. If you bring it indoors you could experiment with a cooler room and very bright light, and be careful not to overwater the plant. Good luck!
