| There are several possibilities. Many deciduous fruit trees don't bear fruit for 3, 4, 5 or even more years after planting. I'm not familiar with "Giant" Asian Pear as a variety name, although most Asian pear varieties bear after two years. Some varieties require cross pollenization with another variety to bear fruit. Do you know if your variety is self-fruitful or not? Finally, fruit trees need a certain number of chilling hours to bear fruit. Chilling hours are defined as hours in which the temperature is below 45 degrees F. Asian pears generally require 400-450 chilling hours. Do you have info about the variety from where you bought it? You can find out the number of chilling hours in your area by contacting your County Cooperative Extension office. |
