The Q&A Archives: When To Separate & Replant Irises

Question: I would like to thin my Iris bed, & replant the extra
corms. When should I do this? Thanks in advance.

Answer: Bearded iris are traditionally lifted and divided in mid to late summer so that they have had some time to recover strength after blooming and will still have ample time to become reestablished before winter. They can also be reset in the spring, but this may cause them to skip a year of blooming.
