I live in New Jersey. I would like to grow MICHELIA CHAMPACA in a container inside my apartment. Is this possible and if so how do I care for it? Thank you.

Unfortunately, this is probably not going to work well for you in an apartment. To grow this in a cold weather (ie non tropical) climate generally requires a heated greenhouse where the tree (it grows to 25 feet or so) can enjoy the full sunshine and warm temperatures (and space) it needs. If you are looking for a fragrant houseplant, you might have better success with one of the jasmines instead. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging.
