This plant is best planted in spring, however it is a very strong grower and can be planted from a container at any time the ground can be worked. Make sure the soil stays evenly moist but not sopping wet during the establishment period. (This plant needs a well drained location in full sun.) Use your finger to check both the potting mix and the surrounding soil. Also, apply and maintain several inches of organic mulch over the root area (do not place it up against the stem) to help keep the soil more evenly moist and keep down weeds. It will also help feed the soil as it breaks down over time.
