Do you have the Pink Pearl Bougainvillea ( Bougainvillea Aberl) as a bush variety and not the vine variety?? I love this plant but need a bushy variety. Have you developed the bush yet? Where can I buy in Orange Country, California? If not, can I buy the vine variety and prune the branches and form it into a bush? THank you Alison Neulander |
Pink Pearl is a vining bougainvillea and will not remain a bush, regardless of how you prune. Heavy pruning will keep a vine under control, but you'll lose the bloom, which is the reason most gardeners plant bougainvillea in their landscapes. A better choice is a bougainville with a naturally bushy shape. The shrubby, sprawling bougainvilleas include 'Brillian Variegated', 'Crimson Jewel', 'Raspberry Ice', 'Purple Queen' and 'Rosenka'.
