What are the procedures for planting alliums? I was told that it's a good idea to soak the bulbs overnight and that it is not too late to plant them this year. Can you verify this?

Ornamental alliums can be planted in the fall. In your area, it's not too late to plant them. After being established for a few years they become crowded and need to be divided. Fall is the best time to do this. The bulbs do not need to be soaked overnight, but be sure to water the garden well after you plant them.

Your giant allium should bloom in July. Look for spectacular clusters of bright lilac colors on a tall stems.
