The Q&A Archives: Miosture Loving Plants

Question: I'm looking for 2 small accent plants, low shrubs or groundcover and 1 small tree to be planted in moist and poorly drained soil.

Answer: If the soil is moist as compared to boggy (shallow water at all times), you can plant Siberian iris, hosta, Houttuynia cordata (groundcover), calla, Phalaris arundinacea (ribbon grass), Matteuccia struthiopteris (ostrich fern), Alocasia (elephant's ear) or Cyperus. Willow trees don't mind wet feet and Cedar trees are right at home in moist soils. Hope these suggestions help you find just the right plants for your landscape.
