Does the Deutzia shrub have its blooms on first- or second-year growth? I want to know for pruning purposes. Thanks! |
Deutzia blooms in early spring, on wood produced during the previous summer. It's best to prune the shrubs immediately after flowering so they'll have all summer to produce new shoots and flower buds for the following spring's display. If you prune now (late summer), you may reduce the number of potential flowers, but you won't hurt the plant. |
