I planted a Snow Fountain weeping cherry in mid-May. It is approx. 6.5 feet tall. Reading your web site, I learned that the tree may double in size over time. I'm afraid I put it too close to the house. Can I transplant it safely, or is it likely to die if I attempt to move it?

Since it is was only recently planted, you might still be able to move it succesfully. Water it deeply the day before the move. When you dig it up, take as much of the root ball as you possibly can -- remember it should have expanded over the summer -- and replant it immediately. Water as needed to keep the soil evenly moist but not sopping wet up until the ground freezes, and water as needed next summer and fall as well. Keep in mind that you would be removing it shortly in any case if it is too close to the house, so trying to move it now is probably preferable. The tree may possibly defoliate shortly after the move, but be patient, it should come back next spring.
