What is the difference of Marumi Kumquat and Meiwa Kumquat ? I know they are not Nagami Kumquat, but are they same ???? Please advise, Thanks.. |
Kumquats are members of the citrus family. The most commonly grown in backyard gardens are 'Marumi', 'Meiwa' and 'Fukushu'. 'Marumi', a slightly thorny plant with round fruit. It has a sweet peel and seedy, slightly acidic flesh. 'Meiwa' has sweeter, juicier and less seedy fruit than other varieties. It's considered best for fresh eating. Nagami is the main commercial variety. It produces oval, slightly seedy fruit and the sweetness intensifies when grown in hot summer climates. It's a thornless plant. |
I think Marumi was more cold hardy than Meiwa, and some source also mentioned that Marumi was the most cold hardy kumquat. |
