I have several nice sized Purple Coral Bells. I would like to add them to my back yard by means of dividing them. Can I divide coral bells and how and when is the best time to do so?

Heuchera or coral bells can be divided. The best time to do so is in the early spring. Dig up the plant taking all the roots, then separate it vertically into sections. Take a top portion (crown) with corresponding roots. You will be able to see some natural division points once you have dug it up. If the center has become very tough and woody, replant only the outer more vigorous parts. Replant immediately at the same depth as it grew before. Water well to settle the soil and treat them as you would any new plant for the coming season. Enjoy your coral bells!
