| Saffron is used as a flavoring in many foods and is derived from Crocus flowers. It's actually the dried stigmas of the blossom. (The yellow threads in the center of the flower.) It takes about 100,000 flowers to produce one pound of saffron. Crocus are bulbs, and bulbs multiply by forming little bulblets next to the parent bulb.
