How do I care for my plantain lily for winter, someone told me I had to dig them up....I really don't want to do this since I have a very nice flower bed... |
Plantain lily is an old fashioned common name for hosta. Hosta plants are very winter hardy and need no special care in your area. A year round mulch of several inches of organic material such as shredded bark should be sufficient. Place it around and under the foliage but not up against or touching the stems. The plants will die back completely when freezing weather occurs. Next spring, you should see them emerge from the ground, they will look almost like little horns coming up. Enjoy your hostas! |
