My mother was told at one time that in order to get the best blooms on a mimosa tree that one needed a male and a female tree. The Monrovia mimosa trees at Summerwinds Nursery in Mountain View don't say if they are male or female, and no one who worked at the nursery could tell us. So- is this true that a male and female are needed for best blooms, and if so, what gender of tree are the Monrovia trees? Thanks, Ellen |
I'm afraid your Mother is incorrect - at least as far as Mimosa trees go. The trees will produce flowers at an early age, and are happy growing all by themselves. They flower best in areas with high summer heat, but will flower reliably in even moderately warm summer regions such as yours. |
