I have received several (75) bulbs to plant. I do not know enough about them to know how tall they grow or how far apart to plant them. The names on the packages are: Allim Moly, Brodaiea Laxa Q Fabiola, Anemone Coro "De Caen", TLP.Dasystemon Tarda, Crocus species. I don't know the common names for these flowers. Can you help me, or show me pictures of these particular bulbs? |
I can describe the plants for you: Allium is a member of the onion family. A. moly is also called Golden Garlic. The foliage will be flat, 2" wide and about 18" tall. The plant produces bright yellow flowers in open clusters on 9"-18" tall stems. Plant 8"-12" apart. Brodaiea is a member of the lily family, commonly called Ithuriel's Spear. Plants will produce purple-blue trumpet shaped flowers on 2'-3' tall spikes. Plant corms about 4" apart. Anemone, or windflower, produces 2" blossoms on 6"-12" stems. The foliage is finely divided and grows in clumps. Plant 8"-12" apart. Your tulips (T. dasystemon tarda) are late-bloomers. Space 4"-8" apart. Crocus are also members of the lily family. These produce grass-like foliage with a silvery midrib. The clumps grow only 6"-8" high. The flowers are held just barely above the foliage. Plant 3"-4" apart. A general rule of thumb for planting bulbs is to plant them about twice as deep as the bulb's diameter, in average, well-draining soil. Water them well after planting and be sure to mark the areas where they're planted so you don't accidentally dig them up while they're resting! Enjoy your spring show! |
