Is there any limitations to planting lilacs in the fall? |
In my experience, container grown lilacs can be planted in the fall with good results. (Bare root plants are usually only available in the spring.) Make sure the root area is well mulched after frost and that the soil is kept evenly moist but not sopping wet up until it freezes in late fall or early winter. This will allow the roots to become established faster and will send the plant into winter in a well hydrated state which should also help it survive the cold better. |
