What would cause Leaves turning from green to a tan color? Planted Seattle area 1st part of July 2002. Leaves still pliable plants seem to be still alive, but fading fast. |
While it may look alarming, it's normal for boxwood to shed their older leaves at this time of year. If the beige-colored leaves are mostly toward the center and bottom of the plant, I'd say it was normal. New leaves will grow in their places next spring. If whole sections of the shrub have beige-colored leaves, then I'd suspect a root problem. Poorly draining soils that remain quite damp for extended periods of time can cause root rot. There's not much you can do to save a plant that has developed root rot, but you can improve the drainage and replant. Best wishes with your boxwoods! |
