Can or should a dwarf yedda hawthorn be pruned. If yes, when and how is this best done?

Hawthorns generally are not pruned, other than to remove dead, twiggy growth or misplaced branches. Sometimes water sprouts appear (slender upright growth) and they should be removed as soon as they appear. Other than the above, it isn't necessary to prune. If you decide your hawthorn requires pruning, wait until late winter to give it a trim.
