Have sandy acidic soil at my summer cottage. Cast iron plant sounds like my solution if it will grow in this type of soil. Will it thrive or do I need to somehow change my soil conditions? |
Cast iron plant or Aspidistra is typically grown as an old fashioned house plant in northern areas with cold winters. Although sometimes listed as hardy into the warmer parts of zone 7, it is most often grown as an easy shade-loving perennial in warmer states such as Florida. In my experence this plant would not be reliably hardy anywhere in Ohio regardless of soil type. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging. |
