I am looking for a small tree to plant next to our pool. There is a 4' wide strip of garden between the edge of the pool and a brick wall so non-invasive roots are a requisite. Since the tree would be right next to the pool I would prefer a variety that does not shed a lot of leaves or fruit. Palms are okay, but I would like other suggestions too.

Thanks!

Litter from trees and shrubs is certainly a consideration when you're planting near a swimming pool, but you'll probably also want to avoid anything thorny, bristly, prickly or sharp. Some good choices include Ensete (banana), Ficus, Tabebuia (Golden Trumpet Tree), Dracaena (a shrub with tree-like growth) and Rhaphiolepis 'Majestic Beauty' (Palm).
