| My grandmother used to grow ground cherries (she called them). They were yellow-orange and grew on a vine in the garden, had a geometrically shaped very thick pod around the fruit, and had a unique flavor. I can't find a reference to them anywhere. Is there another name for them? Perhaps then I could track down some seeds. |
| Ground Cherries are botanically known as Physalis longifolia or Physalis pruinosa (and a few other Physalis varieties). They are a member of the Nightshade family. I found seed available from Blum's. You can reach them at www.seedsblum.com/tomato.htm. I also located a few recipes during my research if you want to come visit again after you have successfully grown them.... |
