The Q&A Archives: Maximum Distance Between Blue Girl And Blue Boy Holly

Question: What is the maximum distance I can plant a Blue Boy Holly from a Blue Girl Holly that will still allow the Blue Girl Holly to produce berries?

Answer: In commercial holly orchards where the berries are grown as a crop for harvest, the males are planted within about two hundred feet or so of the females. This is based on the typical flight range of the bees that work the flowers in the spring. Certainly though, the closer the better within reason.
