The beauty of photinia is in the reddish colored new foliage so you'll want to encourage lots of new growth by pruning your plants in the very early spring. To keep the shrubs full and dense, you can shear them like hedges, or prune back individual branches one at a time. Try not to remove more than one-third of the live material when you prune. Removing too much at one time will stress the plants. Enjoy the spring color of your photinia!
