The Q&A Archives: Fertilizer

Question: I have four new "Aurea Nana" shrubs. What type of fertilizer should I use? You mentioned "general purpose
fertilizer"--Is that the 7 drop stuff?

Thank you,
Ana Graves

Answer: Yes, you can use a liquid fertilizer at the dilution recommended on the label, or you can sprinkle a granular fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) on the soil around the plants as directed on the fertilizer label. As a general rule, fertilizer should be applied in the spring when the plants are actively growing. If you fertilize now it will encourage new growth which will not be hardy if frosty weather arrives. Enjoy your new shrubs!
