Are star pines hardy on the east coast in zone 6? If so, do you know where I can locate one? On a recent trip to california, I was entranced by the how symmetrical these trees are.

Unfortunately, Star Pine or Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria excelsa) is not hardy in cold winter climates such as zone 6. It can however be grown as a house plant or conservatory tree, and is often sold as a florist's mini holiday tree. You might check with local nurseries or house plant suppliers to see if they have any available or if they will stock them in December.
