I live in Chesapeake, VA. I would like to plant a number of Shishi Camellias in the front of my house. During the summer this area get solid sun from about 0730 to about 1500. Is this too much?

I think this would be far too bright, a location in that much sun and in your area actually counts as a full sun location in plant terms. (Camellias need light shade -- this would be dappled light all day or possibly some morning sun and cool shade the rest of the day.) You might check with your local county extension and professional nursery staff for suggestions as to what else you could try based on a more detailed understanding of the growing conditions such as soil type and wind exposure and so on in the location you want to plant. Good luck with your shrubs!
