The Q&A Archives: Majestic Beauty Star Pine Temperature Tolerance?

Question: I live in a lower mountain community and would like to plant a Majestic Beauty Star Pine. I live at a high elevation of about 4000 ft. We have snow sporadically during the winter months. Will the Star Pine survive the cold, freezing temperature?
Thank you,

Answer: Majestic Beauty Star Pine is Araucaria heterophylla, also known as Norfolk Island Pine. It's native to Norfolk Island, Australia, where climate is mild in winter and warm in summer. In your gardening region, the tree should be kept indoors as a houseplant all year around. An alternative for you is to keep it indoors during the winter months and take it outdoors during the spring and summer seasons.
