Is there anything I can plant in my back yard to somewhat discourage Mosquitos next summer?

Unfortunately, although there are some lemon-scented plants that are said to repel mosquitoes, they don't really work on a consistent basis. They are also not winter hardy. Your best bets are to make sure there are no breeding grounds close by -- no standing water -- and to maintain a trimmed area close to the house so that their favored habitat of damp brush is not close to where you are spending time. Wearing long sleeved shirts and long pants and using a good quality repellent are recommended in areas where mosquito-borne diseases are prevalent as well. Your county extension may also have some suggestions for you. Good luck!
