Answer: Thuja, also called Arborvitae, make excellent privacy screens. They have an upright, columnar growth habit and can be trimmed for a uniform look. They grow only 2'-3' in width, but upwards of 20' (keep them lower with pruning). The roots will require soil 12"-18" in depth. Since your planting area is only 2' wide, Thuja seems to be the best choice.
