The Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) can grow 100' tall and about 60' wide. Based on the potential mature size of your cedar, and taking into consideration that the root system of the tree will extend out about one and one-half times the diameter of the canopy, I'd avoid disturbing the soil within 90-100' of the tree. Good luck with your new home!
