| I need a book for an 80 year old lady who is just now getting into indoor gardening. Unfortunately she knows little aboout the basics of gardening and won't get within 20 feet of a computer. So I need a VERY basic book on gardening for this lady to educate her and to keep her interested in her new hobby. She has questions like, "What do they mean by pinching off new growth?" and "What exactly is new groth and where would one find it?" and "How do you repot a plant?" | Well, there really is "Houseplants for Dummies" (by Larry Hodgson, ISBNISBN: 0-7645-5102-7, paperback.) It is pretty good in terms of starting with an assumed knowledge level of truly not much at all but yet giving enough information that you can get great results with your plants. It will help you select plants that are well suited to the growing conditions in your house and to the amount of care you want to expend on them. It addresses most of the plants you are likely to find for sale at your local greenhouse or plant shop, too. It offers a lot of practical hopw-to information in a clear and uncomplicated way and is also illustrated so you can see a variety of plants and techniques. I think it would be a great place to start. Last but not least, keep in mind all kinds of gardening are a learning process, lots of trial and error and learning by doing until you discover what works best for you.
