| My Camellia Yuletide is in a large container, and I am watching it well as to temperature, water, wind, etc. It has fairly large buds at the moment. Will it really bloom in a zone 7 winter? I was hoping it might bloom in December, but now I am wondering what will happen! I have an unheated garage with skylights and am wondering if I should just keep it there unless we have temps above freezing??? David |
| Camellia sasanqua 'Yuletide' is a perfect container plant with its dense, compact growth habit and glossy green foliage. This camellia will bloom in late fall or early winter and the name Yuletide refers to the bright red flower color as well as the blooming season. Sounds as though flower buds have formed but the plant isn't aware that fall has passed and winter is in full swing. Your camellia appears to be blooming (or preparing to bloom) on its own schedule. This sometimes happens with immature shrubs and yours should perform as expected once it matures a bit more. You'll need to protect your camellia from hard freezes so an unheated garage sounds like your best bet. Enjoy your camellia (when it finally blooms)! |
