The Q&A Archives: Fast Growing Wide And Tall Shrub Or Bush.

Question: I need a fast growing shrub/bush to cover an area about fifty feet long by 8 feet high. I'm trying to block an area of road for privacy. I could plant several in the row but I want them to grow fully and quickly. I plan on spending the entire summer fertilizing and watering to give them every advantage.

Answer: Some of the fastest-growing screening hedges for your gardening region include Abelia, Elaeagnus, Escallonia, Euonymus, Ligustrum, Pittosporum and Viburnum.

To encourage healthy growth, water deeply once each week and apply fertilizer only in the amounts and as frequently as listed on the fertilizer label. Too much fertilizer can burn plants! Good luck with your new hedge!
