The coral color is most pronounced on new growth so the key to having lots of bright color is to prune your maple on an annual basis. Pruning encourages the development of new shoots and branches. Regular pruning will help you control the size and shape of your Japanese Maple in addition to encouraging brilliant color. Prune in spring, just as new growth starts and by mid-summer you'll have lots of colorful new growth.
