The Q&A Archives: Escallonia "Red Elf"

Question: Hi,
Where can I find info and pics of Escalonia "Red Elf"?
How tall & wide does it get? Can it be pruned to keep it small? Any other special care? Pests?

Answer: Wish I could help you find a picture of Red Elf, but I've exhausted my resources to no avail. Escallonia 'Red Elf' is a dense, spreading shrub to 8' tall and 12' wide, with inch-long, dark glossy green leaves and short clusters of deep red flowers. It's a hardy shrub with no special pest problems or maintenance requirements. You can prune annually for shape if you desire, removing about one-third of the growth each time you prune to keep it looking neat and trim.
