Answer: Ensete has a slightly different growth pattern than Musa. Ensete grows quickly to 15'-20' high and when mature it sends out a cylinder which contains flowers. After flowering, the plant dies to the ground. It then sends out new shoots from the crown of the plant. It takes only 2-5 years for this maturation process. So, rather than cut it down, why not allow it to grow naturally? If you choose to cut the top off, the stem will die down to the ground and new shoots will appear at ground level.
