Hello, I was wondering if I would be able to cut off all the leaves of my Ensete Ventricosum by cutting through the main stock of the plant in order to reduce its height. If I do this to my Musa it will sprout new leaves from where I cut. I am thinking the Ensete would do the same. Thanks so much for your help. - Rob |
Ensete has a slightly different growth pattern than Musa. Ensete grows quickly to 15'-20' high and when mature it sends out a cylinder which contains flowers. After flowering, the plant dies to the ground. It then sends out new shoots from the crown of the plant. It takes only 2-5 years for this maturation process. So, rather than cut it down, why not allow it to grow naturally? If you choose to cut the top off, the stem will die down to the ground and new shoots will appear at ground level. |
