When the soil warms in the spring (usually late March or early April in your region), hosta roots come out of dormancy and send up foliage. You'll see the leaves emerge at ground level and then unfurl. As the leaves open, the stems will elongate.

Sometimes it seems like spring will never come! Be patient and your hosta will eventually wake up from its long winter's nap!
