NOW THAT THE WINTER SEASON IS OVER MY BANANA TREE LOOKS LIKE ITS TRYING TO GROW BACK, BUT THE NEW LEAF GROWING ON THE MAIN PLANT TURNED BLACK SHOULD I CUT IT OFF AND IF SO HOW FAR DOWN SHOULD I CUT IT THIS TIME?

Sounds as though a cold snap got to the leaf. Cut it all the way back and remove it completely from the main stem of the plant. Additional leaves should emerge now that the weather has warmed.
