| I live in extreme northern California, and I was wondering if bamboo would survive the outdoors here. We get some snow in the winter, and temperatures sometimes reach near 0 degrees. The summers, on the otherhand, often reach 104. |
| There are a few bamboos rugged enough to survive zero degree winter temperatures. Bambusa Indocalamus tessellata grows 3-6' high with 1/4 inch stems. Giant Timber Bamboo is extremely hardy, reaches 25-45' with 6" stems, and Black Bamboo has attractive black stems and reaches 4-8' in height. All are running bamboos so provide lots of space for them to grow or plan on containing the roots by placing concrete barriers along the edges the beds. |
