The Q&A Archives: Old Type Dusty Milller

Question: Where can we obtain a start or plants of the old style Dusty Miller. This plant was easy to obtain from yards in So. Cal in the 50's. It is a large growing plant with purple flowers. This plant was around until the small compact yellow verson was introduced. We have been trying to locate a plant for a couple of years with no sucess. Any help will be appreciated. Tks E Heinrich

Answer: The old-fashioned purple flowering plant called dusty miller many decades ago is Lychnis coronaria. It's now called rose campion. It is a perennial and grows easily from seed. You should be able to purchase it at any well stocked nursery under the name Lychnis.
