I'm a landscape designer in Cental California. I have a client in Palos Verdes, CA, zone 10-11, so I will be purchasing/ordering through a retail nursery in that area. I need several Hydrangea macrophylla to create a hedge/screen. Which varieties are the tallest, fastest growing, TALLEST,& most vigorous? I need any/all colors except white. Thank you, Stacie Dilg

Aside from the climbing hydrangea (H. anomala petiolaris), H. aspera is the tallest, widest, fastest growing hydrangea. This shrub reaches 10'-12' in both height and width, producing purplish to pink or blue flowers. H. a. sargentiana has larger flower clusters in light purple; H. a. villosa has blue or purple flowers.
